Texas Lightning and Puma Total Club Concept Program

 

Recently, Vic Brown, director of Coaching and Paul McLean, Vice President, took part in the Puma Total Club Concept program held in San Diego, Ca.

 

Puma TCC brought together the elite clubs from across the US, representatives from Puma and special guest Clive Allen, Director of Player Development and coach of the reserve team for Tottenham Hotspurs of the English Premier League.

 

Clive Allen held a morning classroom session discussing the Tottenham methodology used in evaluating young players. In the afternoon, an outdoor clinic was held where he took a local boys team through a typical Tottenham practice session, demonstrating techniques and tactics used in Tottenham’s approach to development and training of youth players.

Before beginning his coaching career, Clive Allen played for many professional teams, including Tottenham Hotspurs, West Ham United, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea. He also represented England on the national team from 1984-1988. and even played American-style football with the London Monarchs before landing a coaching spot with Tottenham. In 1987 Allen earned the Football Writers' Association

Footballer of the Year1987, PFA Players' Player of the Year 1987 and First Division top scorer 1986–87.

 

The program concluded with a discussion between Puma representatives and the clubs on how our relationship with Puma will benefit the clubs. Topics discussed included setting up lines of communication between the clubs, Puma’s relationship with the clubs and the possibility of a player/team exchange program with Tottenham.
