NOTE:  There will not be a 10U Academy Division as those players became eligible to play 11U Competitive on July 1.

May be extended if necessary in some age groups.

TEXAS LIGHTNING PUMA CUP USA 2021

DATE: July 16 thru 18, 2021

PARTICIPATION:

Academy Teams

7U - Preliminary and final Games are 4x8 min. quarters, #3 ball, 4v4 NO goalkeeper, max roster of 8
8U - Preliminary and final Games are 4x8 min. quarters, #3 ball, 4v4 NO goalkeeper, max roster of 8
8U/9U (7v7) Preliminary and final Games are 2x25 min. halves, #4 ball, 7v7 including goalkeeper, max roster of 12
9U (9v9) Preliminary and final Games are 2x25 min. halves, #4 ball, 9v9 including goalkeeper, max roster of 16

Each 9U team playing 7v7 must have a minimum of five (5) players on the field to begin and continue the game. Each 9U team playing 9v9 must have a minimum of seven (7) players on the field to begin and continue the game.

No Guest Players for 9U teams. Roster frozen when Tournament begins. Players may only play on one team in the Tournament.

Competitive Teams

Preliminary Games

11U - 2x25 min. halves, #4 ball, 9v9, max roster 16, up to 5 guest players
NO HEADING ALLOWED IN 11U AND YOUNGER AGE GROUPS
12U - 2x25 min. halves, #4 ball, 9v9, max roster 16, up to 5 guest players
13/14U - 2x30 min. halves, #5 ball, 11v11, max roster 18, up to 5 guest players
15/16U - 2x35 min. halves, #5 ball, 11v11, max roster 22, up to 5 guest players
17/19U - 2x40 min. halves, #5 ball, 11v11, max roster 22, up to 5 guest players

Championship Games

11U - 2x30 min. halves
12U - 2x30 min. halves
13/14U - 2x35 min. halves
15/16U - 2x40 min. halves
17/19U - 2x45 min. halves

Same rules for heading, ball size, roster size, players on the field and guest players apply in the Championship games.

Each team in 11U through 19U must have 7 players on the field to begin and continue the game. Roster is frozen when tournament begins. Players may only play on one team in the Tournament and will need valid Medical Releases (do not need to be Notarized)

Guest Players: 5 guest players will be allowed per team (11U – 19U).

Club Pass Players

  • are allowed
  • do not count as Guest Players
  • must be from the same Club
  • may only club pass for the same age or older team within the same club (11U may club pass on a 12U team, but a 12U cannot club pass on an 11U team)

All Teams will play a 3 game minimum with bracket advancement to finals.

CHECK-IN:

On line check in –upload roster and guest player releases, permission to travel if applicable, into your Tournament application in gotsoccer. 

7U-9U Academy Teams – MUST upload an Academy Tournament Roster, signed and dated by your Home Association Registrar. Do not upload a Game Day Roster, it will not work for this tournament. No Guest Players. US Club Teams will need US Club Roster. ACADEMY TEAMS will play in the same age group that they played in the Spring of 2021 as they do not change their age distinction until August, which is after this tournament. 

11U – 19U – upload a copy of Official State Roster or US Club Roster, Traveling Papers, if applicable. Guest Players – must have a Guest Player Release, signed and dated by the releasing and receiving coaches and must have Player ID # included on release. 

The Final Schedule, Copy of the Rules and Game Score Cards can be found on our web site. Game Score Cards should be signed by the referee and brought to the Tournament Headquarters, The Pavilion, by team manager or coach, following each game, win or lose. Awards will be given in each age group to Champions and Finalists, (1st & 2nd place). Both Champions and Finalists teams, coaches and parents should come to the Pavilion following the final game for the award presentation.

NOTIFICATION:

Accepted Teams and Schedules will be posted on the web site: www.texaslightning.org as soon as possible after the deadline. There will be no refunds for teams that withdraw after the schedule is posted. Teams not accepted will not be charged. 

IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO PARTICIPATE AFTER YOU HAVE MADE AN APPLICATION, YOU MUST NOTIFY THE TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR IMMEDIATELY at klbrown777@aol.com.

FAILURE TO REMIT THE ENTRY FEE DOES NOT SERVE AS NOTIFICATION THAT A TEAM WILL NOT BE PARTICIPATING; YOU MUST CONTACT THE TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR, BEFORE SCHEDULES ARE POSTED OR TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE EVENT, SHOULD YOU DECIDE NOT TO PARTICIPATE! 

2021 Puma Cup Rules state: “Any team that withdraws from a tournament less than two (2) weeks from the start of the tournament or after the publication of the schedule, whichever comes first, or does not complete all required scheduled games, may not be allowed to enter any sanctioned tournaments until said team appears before the NTSSA Cup and Games Committee for a hearing explaining their actions and will forfeit their entry fee and performance bond, if one has been posted.”

REFEREE:

When available, all games will use a 3 person referee system with all referees being USSF certified.
